Ulcerative Colitis Clinical Trials

Volunteer for our ulcerative colitis clinical trials and medical research studies

Ulcerative colitis is an inflammatory bowel disease, which is characterized by inflammation to the lining of the colon (large intestine) and can involve the rectum. The condition is categorized as mild, moderate or severe, depending upon the degree of bowel inflammation, the extent of disease and the symptoms the patient is experiencing.

Ulcerative colitis may cause the following symptoms, often severe enough to diminish the quality of life for those who have the disease:

  • Bloody loose bowel movements
  • Urgency to evacuate
  • Abdominal cramps
  • Pain on opening bowels
  • Nausea
  • Weight loss
  • Extreme fatigue
  • Anemia

Ulcerative colitis is diagnosed by a gastroenterologist through physical examinations, blood tests, stool samples, and colonoscopy.

Complications of ulcerative colitis may include increased pain, mouth ulcers, skin rashes, joint pain, anemia and diminished liver function. Ulcerative colitis also increases your risk of bowel cancer.

No one knows for certain what causes ulcerative colitis and there is no cure. The course of ulcerative colitis is unpredictable and is characterized by exacerbation of symptoms sometimes followed by spontaneous remission. Current ulcerative colitis treatment consists of preventing, controlling and lessening the bowel inflammation and treating pain and diarrhea.

Living with ulcerative colitis can be difficult, stressful and impede your normal, everyday activities. However, medical research and clinical trials are offering hopeful insights and innovative treatments to those who suffer from this often debilitating condition.

If you have been diagnosed with – or think that you may have – ulcerative colitis you may want to consider being a part of one of our clinical trials. Our ulcerative colitis clinical trials are fully supervised and managed by renowned physicians in the gastrointestinal field. By volunteering for our ulcerative colitis clinical trials you will have the opportunity to try promising new treatments and help in the understanding of your condition.
